There are so many wonderful opportunities for one with the desire to volunteer their time to do good. So go out and figure out what you are pasionate about and research how to become a volunteer.
For me it has always been the outdoors and the National Ski Patrol was a natural place for me. When I joined, I was surprised that the NSP did much more than patrolling at ski resorts and that there was something called Nordic Ski Patrol where you get to spend time playing in the winter backcountry. I found my home and welcome you to search for where you belong.
If you are reading this, you clearly love the winter mountains and are probably a skier and I suspect you may have considered becoming a Ski Patroller at least once in your life. Why not spend a few hours one evening after work, talking to a handfull of patrollers (both nordic and alpine) about what we do with the NSP? Become a patroller, a non-skiing patroller or a hill host. Come find out more about each of these opportunities as well as an upcoming Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) class starting in August.
