Words written in my youth, discovered many years later and merged with the imagery of a 2010 lunar eclipse, being chased by the wave of a summit shadow at sunrise.
awaking to heliotrope skies before the sun rises,
i study your outline until tent-filtered-light of morning illuminates your body and eyes open.
early morning becomes late morning and we exit our haven.
the crisp air of high elevation tightens the skin on my face and excites my spirit.
suddenly and without control, i rise upon toes, extending arms above
as my back arches and i moan with delight–stretching every muscle in my body.
as I return from my sudden escape,
i find you, finding your way into my arms.
today is summit day and you are beside me.
